Five Best Intuitive Eating Podcasts
Podcasts are a great way to deepen your intuitive eating practice and learn more about health at every size. Today on the blog, I’m sharing the five best intuitive eating podcasts, and my favorite episodes from each one.
I’m someone who learns best through listening, so no surprise that podcasts have been one of the most helpful things for me both in my personal intuitive eating journey, and professionally. If I’m cooking dinner, cleaning the house or driving to work, you can bet that I probably have a podcast going on in the background.
I’ve found intuitive eating podcasts to be such a helpful resource for my clients as well. I often recommend specific episodes to reinforce what we’ve discussed in session. Having another voice, especially someone who has experienced what they’re struggling with, or an expert doing a deep dive into the research, can be so helpful for getting concepts to click.
The following podcasts are one’s that I listen to regularly. Be sure to subscribe so you can listen to new episodes when they come out, but definitely dig into the old episodes too!
Five Best Intuitive Eating Podcasts
Food Psych
Food Psych was the first intuitive eating/ED recovery podcast I listened to. Outside of my professional training to become a certified intuitive eating counselor, this podcast has had the greatest impact on my practice. In each episode, the host Christy Harrison, a registered dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor, interviews different experts, starting with their relationship with food growing up, and eventually making their way to a discussion of topics related to eating disorder recovery, intuitive eating and weight stigma. I really appreciate that the podcast brings up less discussed, but incredibly important topics in the field, including gender identity and disordered eating, pleasure/sex and body acceptance, and health politics.
My favorite episodes:
Episode #80: The Truth About “Food Addiction” with Marci Evans
Episode #94: How to Leave the Religion of Dieting with Alan Levinovitz
Episode #119: How to Fight Back Against Weight Stigma with Regan Chastain
Episode #103: Social Justice and Racism in the Body-Positive Movement with Gloria Lucas
Episode #157: The Truth About Weight Science with Fiona Willer
The Love, Food Podcast
Each episode starts by reading a listener’s “letter to food,” sharing their story and struggle with their relationship with food. Registered dietitian Julie Duffy Dillon then responds, often with the help of another expert in the field. I always appreciate the gentle way she responds to readers questions, and the way she’s able to break down difficult to understand concepts in such a relatable way.
My favorite episodes:
You Can Eat With Us
My friend Cara Harbstreet’s podcast is only 4 episodes deep, but I am loving it so far! I just love her fearlessness in calling out diet culture and telling it like it is. I was really honored to be the first guest on her podcast, where we recorded a bit of an intro to intuitive eating. I hope it’s helpful for you if you’re new to the practice.
Nutrition Matters
Hosted by dietitian Paige Smathers, Nutrition Matters is my favorite podcast for people to listen to if they’re new to intuitive eating and health at every size. She does a fantastic job anticipating listeners concerns and questions, and addressing them with thoughtfulness and compassion for anyone who is new on this journey.
My favorite episodes:
RD Real Talk
If you’re a dietitian interested in learning more about intuitive eating and health at every size, check out this podcast. I love how the host Heather Caplan merges discussion about non-traditional dietetics paths and the practice of intuitive eating. If you’re new to intuitive eating, check out her series on the 10 principles.
My favorite episodes:
Episode 39: It’s OK to Change Your Mind with Rachael Hartley (is that too self promoting?? Whatevs. I’m doing it)
Episode 20: Amenorrhea and the Ethics of Practicing However You Want to with Robyn Nohling
